Louisiana Style Red Beans and Rice

We went to Louisiana a few months ago and I had the best red beans and rice dish there at a restaurant. Since then, I’ve been searching for just the right recipe to make them at home. I think I just found it. Of course the type of sausage you use for this dish makes all the difference, so I’ll have to do just a bit more tweaking to find just the right one. But so far my first try has been pretty close to perfect. If you love Louisiana style cooking, you may want to give this tasty one dish meal a try.

I’ve been trying to cook a little more with dried beans anyway since they are pretty cheap and actually quite healthy. It’s fun to try different bean recipes and see what my family likes. So far red beans and rice are a favorite, closely followed by pinto beans and cornbread. I think I’m going to try some homemade hummus sometime next week. The dry chick peas for it are already sitting in my pantry and are just waiting to be cooked.
