Raised Beds and Trellises are a Perfect Combination

I have more than several cedar raised beds that I have been using for three years now and love them! The only issue I was having is the overflow onto the ground for some of the vegetables. The lawn guy, my husband, tends to mow over and weed whacks anything that gets in his way! Though I’m not sure I do my planting the “proper” way or not because I have annuals and perennials planted in the same beds that I also plant herbs and vegetables but it works for me, with the exception of this one small issue.

When talking to my mother-in-law last year about this very thing (with the hope she would say something to her son) she said to me, “Use a trellis”. It sounds strange but I had never thought about using a trellis for vegetables! So this year I have strategically placed a trellis in the places where I have planted some green beans, cucumbers and squash and am having great success!  Not only has it solved the overflow issue but we have been getting a better yield as well and my husband loves the fact that I’m not constantly nagging him about destroying the plants!
